Wouldn't it be nice if everyone in the
world used the same chat program? You then wouldn't have to worry
about loading up five different programs to talk to various friends. Never fear, someone is working on the problem!
Jabber is a solution to all your Instant Messaging
woes. It's an open messaging system developed by the
Jabber Software Foundation, and
is now the standard for Instant Messaging.
The system performs similar functions to services
from MSN, ICQ and Yahoo!, but without the unneccessary restrictions.
Why is Jabber better? Notice the
recent disruptions to the MSN Messenger service? Not to mention all the virus issues and similar problems last year.
When MSN outages occur millions of
people are left unable to connect!
Jabber gets around these problems by having hundreds of servers worldwide. All of them
are interconnected, and you just sign up with the one you prefer. If a
server in America goes off the air, it doesn't affect the rest of the Jabber network at all.
Everyone else just keeps on chatting. Not to forget that
you won't have anymore trouble with viruses. You can learn
more about
the benefits on our
About page.
Support for other services is important to many people.
For this reason, Jabber has the ability to talk to closed Instant
Messaging services controlled by foreign corporations like Microsoft and AOL. Of course,
if those companies' servers go offline, even Jabber can't connect to them (but neither can your
MSN/AOL friends, so convince them to switch to Jabber instead).
Interested in trying Jabber out? Read our
Services page, and learn how to connect to the Jabber network
through our server. If you're using a Mac then also check out our
