Today Google launched it's Jabber based instant messaging service. This is great news for open standards and already their service can be used with a wide range of Jabber clients. However, at this stage, it's still not certain if Google will open up interoperability with existing Jabber servers such as jabber.org.au.
See our media release for details.
iChat, contributing and forum feeds - Sunday 22nd May, 2005
You will no doubt have heard that iChat now has Jabber support (starting with Mac OS X Tiger). This is great news because it means that many people will have a computer that comes with Jabber support that's built right in. We have written detailed instructions on how use jabber.org.au with iChat. Even if you're not using a Mac, be sure to pass it onto your Mac using friends and encourage them to sign up to Jabber!

More server fixes applied - Monday 27th December, 2004
We're still at it. You had probably noticed the annoying problems where you'd attempt to sign in, but get a message back saying you're not authorised. Yet 2-3 attempts later, you find that it works. Well we've nailed this one right on the head. As it turns out, the database was dropping connections after 10 minutes of inactivity. To work around this, we've modified the server code to connect as an interactive client giving us an idle timeout of 8 hours instead. Since then, we've had not one mysql error.
In addition we've patched our s2s code so that communication with other people on Jabber servers is even more reliable.
MSN Transport now here - Monday 20th December, 2004
It has finally happened! Jabber Australia now has an MSN transport so you'll be able to talk to all your friends/family this Christmas. This will work in all jabber clients that support service discovery.
See forums for details on how to use the MSN Transport.
